The Crimson Dancers

Who Are The Crimson Dancers?

Well, they are a group of girls that all attend Park University they all work hard during the week attending practices to bring you your halftime shows during the big games. They have practice in the labor hall gym on Mondays and Wednesday from 6pm-7:30pm. On Tuesday they have a morning practice at 7:00am -7:45am to work on techniques, exercises. “The team also does lyrical and some gymnastics on our Tuesday morning practices, it all depends on the day” say’s Demetria Bryers who is currently on the dance team.

About The Team

The team does a combination of hip-hop, Jazz, and Pom. They are also involved in the school by doing fun raisers and participating in school events like Fright Night. They had a booth for games for the kids and help set up inside so that the night could be enjoyable for all since it rained outside. The crimson dancers also sold boo grams to help fund their squad because they don’t get money funded directly from the school so anything they want to do they have to do themselves.

Along with that being said since the dance team dose not have their own private practice space, they have to share the gym with the rest of the school. This then cuts into the time the boys uses the gym to play basketball they cant play while the dancers stretch or practice cause someone could get hurt so the team has to tell them to leave. So for other people they also have to wait till practice is over or just come back the next day. Sometimes the gym will even be closed or off limits and the girls would have to find another place to practice, for example they had to practice in the underground once.

How The Dance Team Came About

The dance team was organized and founded by Abby Jeans. The two captains are Nique Brown, and Gabby Bretz. These two work hard together to create the dance performances for the girls. Nique recently choreographed the hip-hop routine to the song Level Up by Ciara. Gabby recently choreographed the jazz routine by the song Hand Clap by Fitz and the Tantrums. Abby Jeans choreographs the Pom routine, like the recent one that was done at the boys and girls basketball halftime game featuring the song Heaven by DJ Sammy featuring  Yanou and Do. Here is a slide show of the girls and what they have done.

“You have to practice outside of just coming to dance practice every day. Because just coming to practice isn’t going to get the job done.” “You have to practice alone and by yourself, so that you know the routine and don’t have to rely or count on the people in front of you or beside you.” “It also builds confidence when you know the routine and makes you feel better about being at practice versus when you come to practice not really know the routine and haven’t been practicing, that can be a little difficult and sometimes stressful cause you find yourself being lost a little more,” Says dance member Victoria Smith.

“Being captain of the dance team can be tough at times because going through the dance routines over and over and seeing the girls struggle is a little frustrating at times but at the end of the day when we all come together and know the dance it just makes me so happy,” “We all also keep in touch by using group me” says Nique Brown.

Playing The Role

There are two different parts of the team one part of the team is the performance team and the other side of the team is the general team. The general members do not perform but they still come to practice and work on their dancing skills they are not required to show up at every practice. The performance team on the other hand practice is mandatory and once you get 3 strikes your out! So yeah they take dancing seriously.

Being on the dace team means also representing the school in a good and positive way. That means not saying hateful things about the school on their social media pages or just being rude or disrespectful in any way. The dance team has now been growing for 4 years strong. Take a look at their performance during the boys basketball halftime game.
